After the Tiefenthal couple had completely renovated a 110-year-old city villa nine years ago, they began to yearn for a weekend home in a rural location. They looked for a suitable property in Winterberg. Winterberg offers extremely high recreational value at any time of year and has the largest ski area in Germany north of the Main line.
After the couple were successful in a bidding process with many other interested parties, they were delighted and got straight down to planning.
«The fantastic location of the property almost dictated the floor plan,» explains Timo Tiefenthal, «with a panorama from east to south to west with views over the heights of the Sauerland and far into Siegerland, it was clear to us that, in addition to the striking façade made of pre-weathered silver fir, a lot of glass had to be used.»
With their ideas and sketches, they went in search of a timber construction company in the nearby Sauerland region. They found what they were looking for in neighbouring Olsberg at the company Wiese & Heckmann.
