Replacement of single-room fireplaces in accordance with the 1st BImSchV in Germany

The legislator in Germany has set the deadlines according to the "First Ordinance on the Implementation of the Federal Immission Control Act" (1. BImSchV) for the operation of old single-room fireplaces for solid fuels. If the old appliance no longer fulfils the prescribed CO emissions and particulate matter values according to the 1st BImSchV, the heating appliance must be retrofitted or replaced.

What are the deadlines?

The last deadline for the Federal Immission Control Ordinance (BImSchV) in Germany expires at the end of 2024.

Whether your stove is affected by this depends on the date on the CE mark of the single-room firing system. If the date is not visible on your fireplace, please contact your dealer.

It affects fireplaces in Germany with type approval from 1 January 1995 up to and including 31 March 2010: Date of retrofitting or replacement until 31 December 2024

Does my stove still fulfil the legal requirements?

Check the database of the Industrieverband Haus-, Heiz- und Küchentechnik e.V. (HKI) to see whether your stove model still fulfils the set values. You can use the following link to find your appliance based on the manufacturer and model name of the fireplaces.

What do I have to do if my stove no longer meets the legal values?

Depending on the type test and assessment on the HKI database, the single-room fireplace must be retrofitted or replaced by the deadline of 31 December 2024. After this legal deadline, these stoves may no longer be operated.

What is the advantage of replacing the stove?

New and modern stoves have more advanced combustion technology than older fireplaces. This provides more efficient and environmentally friendly heating and the lower fuel consumption means that heating costs can be saved.

The stove should have the appropriate heat output for the room to be heated. Particularly in modernised buildings with thermal insulation, a new, performance-adapted stove can prevent the room from overheating and consequently increase fuel consumption and continuous ventilation.

In addition to efficient combustion technology, new stoves feature new technologies such as infrared coating on glass ceramic panes, double glazing, window rinsing, automatic burn-off control and much more.

In the stove configurator, you can click through the many models and configure the stove to suit your needs. For price enquiries, please contact an Attika specialist partner in your area directly.
