A sheep pen is converted into

a rustico on Lake Como

A rustico to feel at home in.

It is hard to imagine that a sheepfold once stood here. The rustico is an inviting place for a cosy get-together – in summer and winter alike.

The couple Barbara Sprenger and Roland Schmid were actually looking for a cheap storage room, as their apartment in Italy had no cellar. A sheepfold caught their interest. «At first glance, the rooms were full of old furniture and firewood, and the roof had holes in it – we thought it was a project to forget», says Roland Schmid, «but when we closed our eyes, the room gave us a feeling of security.»

Our architect thought about how to turn the stable into a cosy rustico that could also be lived in all year round. A new project was born.

«Part of the task was therefore also to heat the rustico», says Mr Schmid, «the central aspect of which was a stove that is visually very appealing, allows a view of the fire and, once fired up, emits its heat over a longer period of time.»

The architect suggested that the couple install a JUNO 120 L stove.

«The stove creates a cosy and relaxed atmosphere in our rustico on cool evenings. We wouldn't want to be without it.»

The timeless design of the stove blends perfectly into the rustic ambience of the room. With its slender form and elegant details, the stove is not only a source of warmth, but also an eye-catcher in the room.

«It was also important to us that the stove is environmentally friendly and easy to use», emphasises the couple, «which is another advantage of the JUNO 120 L. The soapstone stores the heat and releases it for hours, even long after the fire has gone out.»
