The Alpenhof - an inspiring retreat with far-reaching views
The Alpenhof is a restaurant, hotel and library - secluded on the St. Anton Pass in the beautiful Appenzellerland. A place to feast, read, hike, relax, work, walk, be. Or simply to do nothing.
The Alpenhof was taken over by Flavia Bienz, Laura Röösli and Dominic Chenaux in summer 2021 and transformed from a group house for self-catering guests into a hotel with a restaurant. The five of them now manage the challenges ahead. Ivanassèn Berovm and Michael Müller have been part of the team since autumn 2023. «The large garden with hammocks, the panoramic windows with cushions, the cosy fireplace room, the roof terrace with deckchairs or the sauna with a view of the forest create places for retreat and relaxation - places like these help you to recharge your batteries, calm down and have time for yourself,» explains Dominic Chenaux. It was clear to the team:
«In such an isolated and remote location - often exposed to the harsh weather - a cosy atmosphere with a warming wood stove is a great asset for us and our guests.»
Wherever possible, the restaurant works with sustainable products from the immediate vicinity and focusses entirely on organic, home-made and slow food. The hotel rooms are of simple beauty and, on a clear day, offer breathtaking views of the Rhine Valley, the Alpstein, Vorarlberg and the Silvretta.
And in the library, over 10,400 books on the topics of weather, geology, astronomy, photography, art, kitsch, popular culture, design, urban development, architecture and literature await their readers.
Many a reader will find themselves in front of the crackling open fire in the cosy fireplace room.
